Protocol Deck
A free single-player deck-building game: pick your path, add or cut cards after each fight and beat two bosses. Saves mid-run, three difficulties.
Protocol Deck is a single-player deck-building card game. You climb two sectors of a network on a branching map of fights, elite fights, events and rest points, with a boss at the top of each sector. A full run takes about 20 to 30 minutes and is saved after every move.
Each turn you draw five cards and have three energy to play them: attacks, Block, Virus, Weak and Exposed, and powers that last the whole fight. Enemies always show their next move, so every turn is a planning puzzle: block the big hit, or race to win first. After each fight you add one of three cards to your deck or remove one, and a smaller deck draws its best cards more often.
There are 38 cards, 8 enemy types and 2 bosses, with Practice, Standard and Challenge difficulties. The balance was checked by simulating thousands of runs with different deck styles, so no single card or strategy wins on its own.
Quick lesson: Deck size and the odds of a draw
You draw 5 cards a turn from a shuffled deck. Every card you add makes each other card a little less likely to turn up; every weak card you remove makes your best cards turn up more often. The strongest deck is rarely the biggest one.
