What it practises
- Language & vocabulary: Vocabulary, spelling, listening and reading for meaning.
Word games suit vocabulary and comprehension. Grammar and formal writing are covered separately.
Quick lesson: Reading for meaning
Answer from the text, not from memory. Some answers are stated directly, the main idea is what the whole passage is about, and an inference is something the text suggests without saying.
Check question
“Lena grabbed her umbrella and coat before leaving.” What can you infer?
- Lena was late
- It was probably raining or cold
- Lena lost her umbrella
- It was a hot day
Answer: It was probably raining or cold. People take umbrellas and coats for rain or cold.
