What it practises
- Grammar & formal writing: Sentence structure, punctuation, register and building a clear paragraph.
This is the area games cover least well. Writing games are paired with untimed writing and review.
Quick lesson: Subject–verb agreement
The verb must match its subject: one thing takes “is/has/walks”, more than one takes “are/have/walk”. Watch out for words in between: “The box of apples is heavy” (the box is).
Check question
The list of names ___ on the wall.
- are
- is
- were
- have
Answer: is. The subject is “the list” (one thing), so “is”.
