What it practises
- Grammar & formal writing: Sentence structure, punctuation, register and building a clear paragraph.
- Deep reflection & analysis: Slowing down: weighing evidence, spotting weak arguments and explaining why something worked.
This is the area games cover least well. Writing games are paired with untimed writing and review.
Quick lesson: Paragraph structure
A clear paragraph opens with a topic sentence, then gives details, steps or reasons, and ends by wrapping up. Signal words like first, next, however and overall show the order.
