What it practises
- Grammar & formal writing: Sentence structure, punctuation, register and building a clear paragraph.
- Deep reflection & analysis: Slowing down: weighing evidence, spotting weak arguments and explaining why something worked.
This is the area games cover least well. Writing games are paired with untimed writing and review.
Quick lesson: A strong thesis
A thesis is the one-sentence answer to an essay question. A strong one takes a position and gives a reason. Restating the topic, or saying “I will discuss both sides”, is not a thesis.
